Water and sanitation are two things that many people take for granted yet The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that 2.5 billion people do not have access to adequate sanitation and 785 million people lack even a basic drinking-water service. By 2025, half of the world’s population will be living in water-stressed areas. SOWTech’s mission is to use their knowledge and experience to design cost effective ways to improve that situation.
Can SOWTech design something to help your waste and water issues?
By designing faecal treatment systems for development situations
By collecting rainwater for hygiene, sanitation, crop irrigation and animals
By replacing wood fuel with solar power
SOWTech designs innovative products and processes for the promotion of sustainable living. This includes recycling organic wastes and rain water collection. Our aim is to provide more sustainable healthier ways of living. We have been doing this by collecting, treating and using biological waste materials and collecting rainwater in quantities during the rainy season to be useful in the dry season. Our latest project is to reduce the amount of wood fuel used for cooking by designing and developing ways of cooking using solar power.
We are particularly focused on finding solutions which are practical for people who live in low-income countries.
